strong points:

Shellman (シェル·マン Sheruman) is the name of a large, robotic hominid which resides within the Marine base, G-6. Normally kept within the base when dormant, Shellman is only deployed against threats to G-6 when such force is needed. Oddly enough, despite being treated as a living entity, it's revealed during the G-6 Arc that Shellman is merely a large weaponized suit of armor, and that it's secretly operated from within by a Marine known as Hyde (ハイド Haido.)

  • The metal armor known as Shellman takes its name from the words "Shell" and "man," referring to its protective exterior and its human-like shape. And albeit unintentionally, it bears the word "hell" in its name, which could refer to the horror theme of G-6.
    • Its operator, Hyde, is based off of the name of one of two characters in the story, "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde;" Mr. Hyde being the inner evil of the kindly Dr. Jekyll, now personified. It's also a play on the word "hide," which can refer to one of two things. The first being that Hyde barricades himself within Shellman, thus hiding himself from others. The other origin of the name comes from the alternative meaning of the word, "hide;" which is used to describe the outer layer or exterior of something. In this case, it refers to the metallic hide in which Hyde secludes himself within during combat.
  • Like other members of G-6, Shellman was intended to have a monster theme. Shellman took very loose inspiration from that of Frankenstein's monster. Unintentionally however, it may also resemble homunculi; artificially created humans.
